The SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer Integration
With the integration of the SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer into the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, you can fully leverage your existing investments and SQL expertise and support HANA SQL data warehousing scenarios.
We’ve sat down with Axel Meier, the Senior Director of Solution Management for the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, to talk about this feature, and here’s what he had to say.
In the SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer, you can execute complex HANA-compatible SQL statements, including SQL DDL & DML statements, create stored procedures, views, triggers, tasks, functions, and more. The integration of the SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer into the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud gives SQL community an option to shift workload to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud while re-using existing SQL know-how – no need to learn new skills or tools.
With this feature, you can connect external tools, like SAP Data Services (ETL), SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Data Hub, or tools certified to connect to HANA and SAP HANA Cloud – including ODBC/JDC, to database schemas (open SQL schema) created and managed int the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. An easy option to interact with, load, and process data – without the need to adjust your current ETL process configuration.
The tight integration of the database schema management with the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Space management creates a great collaboration between IT and Business. All the work you do in the SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer can be exposed for consumption within the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. Business users can immediately access SQL artifacts and data in the graphical editors, without any data movement involved.
This connection works the other way around, too: in the SAP HANA Cloud Database Explorer, you can open and use views and tables created in the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, as long as they are exposed for consumption.

Please note: from version 2021.04 on, users can directly connect to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition tenant. From now on, there will be dedicated connection tile for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition, making it easier to connect. The connection can be used for federated and replicated data access in View Builder and Data Flow.
To connect to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition, user can select the tile “SAP S/4 HANA Cloud” while creating new connection in Space.
