hybrid: SAP BW/4HANA + SAP Data Warehouse Cloud

Extending data warehousing
to the cloud

Data is one of the most valuable resources a company has, so it should be driving
decisions at every level of an organization. At the same time, restricted or overly
complicated data access is keeping data confined to data specialists. Today’s
business users need a flexible solution that will let them leverage data in their
day-to-day work. A hybrid data warehousing strategy helps you meet the demands
of the data-driven enterprise.

For SAP BW/4HANA customers, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is the perfect
complement to your on-premise investment. SAP BW/4HANA objects work in SAP
Data Warehouse Cloud so that you can leverage your existing investment. Further
optimize your resources by empowering business users and freeing up IT with SAP
Data Warehouse Cloud’s self-service modeling. Investing in SAP Data Warehouse
Cloud has no upfront costs, unlike on-premises solutions. Once you log in,
connecting to SAP BW/4HANA is easy, and our Smart Data Integration (SDI)
guarantees your data security.

How SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Solves Your Biggest Challenges

Respond to Business Users Faster

Balance secure central governance, on the fly change requests, and business user empowerment with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud’s Spaces. Spaces are isolated environments that allow business users to explore data. In Space Management, IT can set up and quickly adjust each Space’s data connections, user access, and computing/storage quotas. While each Space is isolated, the data remains centrally governed and connected in real-time to the organization’s underlying data. Business users are empowered in their Space to establish connections to new data sources, upload local files, and model data before sharing insights in real-time with other users without affecting the integrity of the underlying data.

Mitigate the Threat of Shadow IT

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is a complete end-to-end solution that takes care of all your employees’ data needs from integration to modeling and analytics, to minimize the need for ad-hoc solutions. It’s also open so you can connect any third-party tools your employees use and then govern them centrally. No matter the employee’s role or department, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud helps you define clear authorizations and assign user roles. Spaces provide IT with company-wide visibility and governance over any data sources and connections.

Leverage Your On-premise Investments

The SAP BW4HANA Transfer Model enables you to transfer your models to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, making set up easy and ensuring quick-time-to-value. This way, you can immediately reuse your SAP BW/4 HANA models and begin empowering business users to connect, model, and visualize data themselves with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. The model transfer works by creating reference points between SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and SAP BW/4HANA. Once set up, users can add, enhance, and transform data in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud without touching the original data in SAP BW/4HANA.

Empower Business Users and Increase the Impact of Your Work

With an intuitive UI and the Business Layer, data is easy to model in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud using either SQL or a graphical drag-and-drop tool. Spaces provide an isolated environment where business users can model and blend global datasets with local data, like CSV files. Federation and virtualization in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud allows business users to access the data they need without IT replicating and exporting the data. It’s easy for IT to jump in at any time to enhance a model for reuse throughout the organization —without having to rebuild the model in a different environment.

More Features

Complete Resource Control and Flexible Allocation

Spaces in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud offer agile control over resources so IT can focus on innovation. Space Management gives an overview of all resources, including the total amount of disk and in-memory being used. From Space Management, IT can then jump into any Space and quickly scale its disk and in-memory storage up or down. Space Prioritization can be adjusted depending on the importance of a Space. When a Space sends a job to the database, it will be handled based on the Space’s priority in relation to other Spaces. To see who’s doing what, Space Auditing shows you who has read or made changes to the data in every Space.

Monitor and Create Connection

Quickly monitor and create connections from the comfort of a single centralized environment. Connections to remote systems or data sources can be created and monitored within each Space in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. The full list of connections, including the connection’s name, owner, creation date, and type, for example, SAP HANA, is available for each Space. You can also drill down on specifics like how often replicated data is refreshed – select real-time or do it manually  in SAP Data Warehouse Clouds Data Integration Monitor. Security and Admin governance in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud extends to IP and Data Provisioning Agent management.

Business Layer

Join the Underlying Data and Secure Business-friendly Access

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud’s Business Layer bridges the gap between the underlying data and secure business-friendly access. The Business Layer can be used to expose business users to the data fields they need while hiding any data fields that might not be relevant. Data fields can then be named using business terminology. By mapping business terminology to the underlying data, business users can understand, model, and analyze data without ever needing to touch irreplaceable underlying data. Separating the Business Layer from the data also means that you’ll only need to define the business terminology once, even if the data changes. If the data connected to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud does change, you just need to point the business terminology to the new data. This way IT is free to work on the underlying data without disrupting anyone.
