Imagine – a flexible and powerful new way to imagine your data so you can make data-driven decisions even more effectively. With the Q2 2021 release of SAP Analytics Cloud, the new model brings the best of the account model and key figure model into a single, unified solution.
This model was designed with Planning users in mind. The conceptual design and data scheme now have much strong alignment with our other SAP products. With these changes, expect a more consistent experience when working with your data, regardless of its source.
For those wondering: “What will happen to my work on the existing account model?”, fear not! The new model stands side by side with the existing one, allowing you to work in tandem with both options and adopt these changes at your own pace.
With the new model, expect the functions of the account model to be extended with additional features and enhancements. Here are a few of the changes you can expect once you start using this new architecture:
1. Improved Integration with most SAP Source Systems
One of the biggest advantages of the new model is seamless integration to most SAP and non-SAP systems. Many systems on the SAP Business Technology Platform use a form of key figure or multi-measure paradigm for storage. To further strengthen data alignment and interoperability with SAP Analytics Cloud systems, a discrete measure dimension has been introduced as a requirement with the new model.
2. Flexible Modeling Options
With both measures and accounts in a single model, this dramatically increases the options available to the solution designer. Whether you are account heavy, measure heavy, or have a mixture of both, the new model is flexible to your specific planning and reporting requirements. Some additional improvements to expect are member formulas now being on accounts and measures, as well as discrete data types and aggregation available by measure.
3. Updated Currency Modeling
Currency planning and reporting are dramatically improved with the new model. In addition to story-based currency conversion, currency measures are now readily available within the model, allowing either calculation or persistent currency results. Easily triangulate across multiple source currencies and several reporting currencies directly in the model.
